What Is a Transmission?

We get asked this a lot. And it makes sense, you as a car buyer don’t go through years of training and certifications like our factory-trained and certified technicians do. In short, a transmission controls your car’s power, like the five-speed transmission to change gears, etc.

What Kinds of Transmission Services Are Available?

Good question! There are three different kinds. If you’re still unsure which you may need, our service advisers will be more than happy to help you sort that out.

1. Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange – Most of America drives automatic transmission cars, the ones without a stickshift. This fluid is what keeps the gears in your transmission lubricated. Over time and natural usage, the constant heat and friction wear away at the fluid, and if not kept up, can cause severe damage to your transmission. So what do we do? We drain your transmission fluid and refill it with manufacturer-approved clean fluid.
2. Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid Replacement – Like with most parts and fluids of your car, things need to be replaced at a regular interval. During this process, we take out both your transmission filter (which works hard at keeping out debris and contaminants) as well as the transmission pan. How is this five-star service? Since we are a certified Toyota dealership and service center, all of our parts and products come directly from your Toyota engineers who designed each of these fluids and parts to fit your specific make.
3. Total Transmission Service – This is the full-package service for your transmission. During this process we:

   • Replace the transmission fluid
   • Replace the transmission filter
   • Examine and clean the transmission pan
   • Assess transmission and look for damage like wear and tear
